Why Does My Assignment Progress Report Show Different Numbers Than the HealthStream System Report?

Data Refresh Frequency Differences When Running The Report By Assignment(s) Differences When Running the Report by Student Group(s) Inactive Students

The Assignment Progress Report in Insights was modeled after the Assignment Completion - Schedulable report in the HealthStream System. The Insights report calculates a user's completion status using the same logic used for the Assignment Completion - Schedulable report in the HealthStream System.

While the logic is the same, you may still see some differences for the following reasons:

 

Data Refresh Frequency

The data for the HealthStream System's Assignment Completion - Schedulable report is updated once every 24 hours.

The data for the Insights Assignment Progress report is updated every 3 hours.

If your reports don't match it may be due to Insights including more recent data than the HealthStream System report.

 

Differences When Running The Report By Assignment(s)

When you configure and run the report on an assignment:

The Assignment Completion - Schedulable report is not assignment-specific, but the Insights report is.

Explanation:

If you run the Insights Assignment Progress report on “Assignment A,” the results of your report would be limited to only students who were assigned “Assignment A.”

The Assignment Completion - Schedulable report does not allow you to run the report only on Assignment A. Instead, you are running the report for any assignment that contains the courses within your selected assignment(s). If you run the Assignment Completion - Schedulable report for “Assignment A,” you would get results for any student with an assignment that contained a course(s) within Assignment A, and not just records for Assignment A.

The difference outlined above means the Insights report may show fewer records than the HealthStream System's Assignment Completion - Schedulable report since it is limiting results to only show assignment-specific records.

If you want to run the Assignment Progress report to match the way the Assignment Completion - Schedulable runs, you can configure your Insights report by Courses (coming in Q4 2024) instead of Assignment(s). There, you can select all the courses found in the assignment. By selecting the course(s) that you want to include in the report instead of the assignment, the Insights report will pull in any user records tied to those courses, which will align it with the numbers found on the Assignment Completion - Schedulable report.

 

Differences When Running the Report by Student Group(s)

If choosing to run the report for a student group(s), the results will include any assignments tied to the student group. 

If there are no assignments tied to the student group, the report results will be blank.

 

Inactive Students

The Assignment Completion - Schedulable report automatically filters out Inactive Students.

The Assignment Progress report in Insights does not automatically filter out Inactive Students.

If you want to filter out Inactive Students from your Insights report, add a filter on the results page of your report. The filter should be applied to the Student Status field and should be set to Active.
